Talented Manchester-based producer and beatsmith Fthmlss showcases the second single and title track from his forthcoming EP ‘Anxious’.

The EP has an overarching theme of mental health the record is made up of two halves - one meditative and relaxed, the other agitated and morose. ‘Anxious’ sits in the latter half, providing a stark contrast to the solitary peace of previous single ‘Still’ and really showcasing the breadth of moods this producer is capable of conjuring up.

Jilted and off kilter beats cut through nervous resonating rhodes lines and slippery upright bass. The sound selections create a real atmosphere of indecisive anxiety and brain fog that draws you into a surreal listening experience.

It’s an intricate, emotive and highly conceptual composition that sits worlds away artistically from the everyday study beats that lofi music has become synonymous with.

After an introduction to Folded by his friend and fellow beat maker Catch92, Fthmlss immediately impressed with his expansive tracks. Support from Huey Morgan on BBC 6Music followed soon after as he featured in label head - Asta Hiroki’s Introspective Guest Mix for Mental Health Awareness Week - the spot couldn’t be more appropriate given the themes of his new EP.

Fthmlss has steadily built a name for himself stitching together curious beats that traverse lofi, downtempo and hip hop styles. Working with established labels including Village Live, Aviary Bridge, and Atlantic Chill, he has become a staple of Hip Hop and Beats Spotify Editorial playlists and his unique productions are always musically rich tapestries of real quality
